Portland Historic Meets Modern Landing
One of the best features of our historic home is the stunning original woodwork that feels like it has stories to tell. But, let's be honest- it can also feel a tad institutional, reminiscent of an old deserted elementary school or a slightly spooky boarding house. To add some flair to the landing I took a cue from the bold world of Marimekko, I cranked up their iconic print to a jaw dropping 1000 times its size, paired bold blues with the cozy golden wood tones, and dove right in. We sprinkled in a textured jute runner, a pair of well-loved vintage snowshoes, and some original art. Now every time we make the trek up and down the stairs, it is like a little adventure that brings a smile to our faces.
